What Is a Water Heater?

A water heater is a household appliance that heats water for daily use—like showers, dishwashing, laundry, and cleaning. Whether gas or electric, water heaters ensure you have hot water on demand throughout your home.

Tank vs. Tankless Water Heaters

Tank Water Heaters (Traditional)

  • Stores a set amount of hot water (usually 30–80 gallons).

  • Water is constantly heated and kept warm until used.

  • More affordable upfront and easier to install.

  • Ideal for homes with moderate hot water usage.

Tankless Water Heaters (On-Demand)

  • Heats water only when you need it—no storage tank.

  • More energy-efficient and space-saving.

  • Higher upfront cost, but lower long-term energy bills.

  • Great for homes with high hot water demand or limited space.

Why You Might Need Water Heater Repair or Installation

  1. No Hot Water
If your system isn't heating properly, it could be due to a broken heating element, thermostat failure, or ignition issue.

  2. Water Heater Leaks
Leaking from the tank, fittings, or valves is a major red flag and can lead to water damage if not fixed quickly.

  3. Inconsistent or Low Water Temperature
Temperature fluctuations could point to sediment buildup, a failing thermostat, or a worn-out heating element.

  4. High Energy Bills
Older or malfunctioning units often work harder, using more energy and raising your utility costs.

  5. Strange Noises
Popping, banging, or rumbling sounds often indicate sediment buildup or internal damage.

  6. System Age
Most tank heaters last 8–12 years, and tankless units 15–20. If your unit is near the end of its lifespan, it's time to consider a replacement.

  7. Upgrading to Tankless
Homeowners often switch to tankless water heaters for better energy efficiency, space savings, and unlimited hot water.
